This is unusual in that it is a German map of Naples. The city is still entirely enclosed in the old walls. Shortly after this map was made, the Spanish started the modern expansion of Naples, as visible in the Lafréry map of 1566 (map 10). The map is by Sebastian Münster, published in Cosmographia Universalis, Basel 1552. The beginnings of early churches are well visible as are the roads beyond the city walls.
