Similar to the 1815 map in that it is a
direct view from the air, this time with great attention
to the topography, showing how the land leads steeply up
from the seaside to what is now the Vomero section of
town. The whole area remained largely undeveloped until
the 20th century. Note that the Royal Gardens (now the Villa Comunale)—in the red
oval—is directly on the sea. The modern seaside road,
via Caracciolo, is not yet present, as it is a result of
the urban renewal of Naples at
the turn of the 19th/20th century.
