The view is to the west, out and over the Chiaia section of the city, which extends inland and about halfway up the Vomero hill. Virtually all of the white buildings in the foreground are part of Chiaia. The Royal Gardens (now the Villa Comunale) are the green patch in the center on the seaside. The small Mergellina harbor is just above that. The large green patch above that is the Villa Rosebery, now the residence of the president of Italy on his trips to Naples. Beyond that, the coastline was not really developed when this image was taken. That has changed dramatically since the end of WWII.
