Roman Campania

This interesting map shows Campaniathe area of the Bay of Naplesas it appeared in Roman times. Note the main Roman roads coming from Rome and the north. Naples, of course, was important, BUT not as important as Pozzuoli (identified as "Puteoli" on the map (with the old Greek name of "Dicaearchia" below it in parentheses). There are, in fact, separate main roads leading to Cuma on the coast and Puteoli, indicating the importance of this area as the port for the Western Imperial Fleet.
